As I’ve blogged about last month, I’ve recently fallen in love with maxi dresses after having scoffed at them for years. When I first laid eyes on this gorgeous White Eyelet Maxi Dress I knew that I wanted it. I originally purchased it as my 30th birthday outfit.
Unfortunately, I dithered so long about buying it that it actually arrived after my birthday but that’s okay. I ended up wearing a fabulous red Lindy Bop dress. But once I had the white dress in hand, I knew that it was definitely one that I had to photograph for the blog as it was so fabulous.
It was part Anne of Green Gables, part 70s film interpretation of an Edwardian dress. And I love it. I had to have Sam re-assure me that it wasn’t too bridal, and once I was convinced of that fact, I wore it out of the house with confidence.
For this outfit, I paired it with my French straw shopper, which I’ve had for ages, as a sort of long-life shopping tote. But now that straw bags are completely en vogue, I’ve reclaimed it from the pantry for food shopping to my wardrobe for a summer accessory.
I’ve mentioned before that York is absolutely awash in incredible green spaces (with us living close to two of them the Knavesmire and Rowntree Park) but I ventured out to Rawcliffe Meadows for these photos. The Meadows covers 25 acres of land just north west of the city centre. It’s also semi-protected as it’s home to the reasonably rare Tansy beetle. (They are beautiful green beetles with a coppery shine. They are so pretty that Victorians used them as sequins – yikes!)
I took these pictures a few weeks ago, and my hair is already much longer than this. It’s only when comparing photoshoots that it reminds me a) of how fast my hair grows and b) I am due for a haircut again asap.
What do you think? Too fanciful a dress?
