Happy Thanksgiving!

Thanksgiving is tomorrow, so I’d like to take the time to wish a happy Thanksgiving to all my American readers. This will be my 11th Thanksgiving in the UK.

Last year, due to how busy I was with the PGCE I wasn’t able to have people over for dinner to celebrate; this year COVID is scuppering any plans I might have had to have folks around for a meal.

2020 has been a stressful year. And one that it’s initially hard to feel any gratitude for. But it’s even more important in times like these to take stock in the good in your life.

This year I’ve been grateful for:

Fantastic friends, even if the chances to see each other in person have been few and far between.

A lovely new home, with beautiful period features in a converted barn with a landlord that is friendly and kind.

Landing a new job in an uncertain world when many people are struggling financially. In fact, I interviewed for this position in the first week of lockdown in the UK.

A sweet boyfriend who goes out of his way to make me feel special.

Family that has continued to check-in and be there for me. Even if it’s just sending a silly instagram message that makes me smile.

My time with Harold. It’s been hard to share custody of him, but it makes me cherish my time with him even more.

A body that let me run and cycle and spend hours and hours outdoors this summer.

A mind that was able to focus enough to finish my PGCE in lockdown and adjust to a new teaching post in the midst of a pandemic.

What are you thankful for this year?
