Travel || 10 Things to do in Madeira

There are so many things to do on the Portugese island of Madeira that I could continue to go on holiday there and never get bored!

10 Things to do in Madeira

>>> Take a toboggan down the Monte in Funchal. The toboggans are a very traditional method for going down the hill and they are also loads of fun – and feel slightly dangerous!

>>> Try Madeira wine at a local distillery.

>>> Visit the black sand volcanic beaches of Seixal. It is so beautiful there and it really reminds me of Hawaii.

>>> Take a day trip to the Valley of the Nuns and the Camara de Lobos and see some absolutely beautiful and contrasting scenery. Once is a mountainous village, the other a seaside one.

>>> The water around Madeira is teeming with wildlife. I really recommend taking one of the sunset catamaran tours. I saw loads of dolphins and it was absolutely magical. Other visitors have even seen whales.

>>> Go for a swim in the Porto Moniz volcanic pools.

>>> Spend a whole day walking the incredibly beautiful levadas.

>>> Visit the East side of the island and see some traditional villages still. (And the Pope-eye village!)

>>> Walk on the slightly terrifying glass viewing platform of Cabo Girao – aka Europe’s highest cliff.

>>> Explore Old Town Funchal. Definitely find a poncha bar whilst you are walking around. It will probably be the last thing you do that day.

Have you ever been to Madeira? What would you recommend?
