Travel || Hailes Abbey

Hailes Abbey was founded in 1246 by the Earl of Cornwall, Hailes Abbey is set amid delightful Cotswold countryside. It was home to the Cistercian monks in the area; Hailes is two miles northeast of Winchcombe. The Abbey was dissolved by Henry VIII in 1539.

The adjacent parish church is filled with some incredible medieval paintings and that’s not to be missed either. Hailes Abbey is a bit out of the way, but it’s absolutely worth being visitied – it is joint managed by the National Trust and English Heritage. The ruins are beautiful and it’s the perfect place to relax with a picnic in some idyllic scenary.

Hailes Abbey costs £7 per adult.

Hailes Abbey is located at Hailes, Cheltenham GL54 5PB.
