Outfitting || A Wide Leg Trouser

wide leg trousers

I viewed the wide leg trouser trend with a hearty dose of scepticism. Surely it was just cousin to the silly looking palazzo trousers and it was a trend that I would fully continue to ignore.

Until I stumbled across a gorgeous striped pair, with a paper bag waist in an extremely light-weight fabric. And from then on it was love. These trousers were my most worn item of the entire summer, and as I managed to nab them for around £10, their cost per wear was about 10p. They vaguely remind me of old-timey prison stripe uniforms, but hey – I’ll roll with that.  (Think the escaped convicts from “Oh Brother, Where Art Thou?”.) But for a striped trouser, I find them really easy to pair with tops: pretty much any solid colour tee-shirt or top works well with them.

Old me would hunt them down now in every colour, but I’m satisfied just owning the one pair and rotating them in and out of my much more minimal wardrobe these days. The main reason why I love them so much is that they are basically pajamas. In fact, they are more comfortable than some pajamas that I own. They make me wonder why I ever subject my legs to the prison that is jeans.

They can also be dressed up and down really easy. I’ve worn them to everything from super casual picnics in the park this summer to evenings at the theatre. They are one of the most practical and utilitarian bits of clothing that I own.

These are literally the comfiest trousers that I have ever owned. I might look like I’m forever in my pajamas, but at least I’m happy! Do you have an item of clothing like that?
