ABCs of Summer

It’s time for my annual ABCs of Summer post. Strangely, we find ourselves in a similar situation to where we were this time last summer, with the added bonus of the COVID vaccine. So as with last year, all these plans are very tentative.

But I am going to plow away with the list. I can’t believe how many years I have been going these for now!

ABCs of Summer

Al fresco dinning. I plan on eating as many meals outside as the weather allows.

Bbqs. All the vegetables bbqed. Everything just tastes a bit better with some char on it.

Completing my first year of secondary school teaching on a high!

Don’t be afraid to spend money on yourself. That’s what it is for.

Encourage as much reading for pleasure as possible.

Fit girl summer. I might not have a Hot Girl Summer (nor do I really want one) but I do want to have a fitness boost. My goal is to be able to finally do the Crow Pose.

Get back into photography. I loved getting some of my creativity back during the Spring Term break.

Harold’s fourth anniversary with me. Harold turned 4 a few weeks ago, and in a few weeks time, he’ll have lived with me for 4 full years. It seems like he’s always been here.

Iced coffees galore. Is there anything better?

July 4th celebrations. It always tickets me to celebrate American Independence Day in the UK. I already have my sparklers ready.

Keep my toes as free from shoes as possible. Make the summer my best barefoot life. I envied everyone their loungewear when I was in trousers and blazers at school.

Live music. I’d really love to see some live music this summer!

Make the most of my time off school and not just watch telly.

Nature walks and exciting adventures reasonably close to home. There are so many gorgeous lakes near me, plus I have my eye on a few beaches.

Open air whenever possible.

Punting in the Cam. I can’t have relocated so close to Cambridge and not go punting this year, right?

Quit making excuses not to write anymore. Try to write a poem a week and send off at least 3 submissions.

Relax a little. I haven’t been very good at self-care or relaxation in awhile. Maybe have a good hammock nap.

Seeing theatre again. I have tickets to two shows at the Globe and hopefully more to come.

Travel to new places. I hope to be able to do some travelling this summer! (Crosses all fingers.)

Uncover some amazing places to explore near my new home. Even though I’ll have been here for a year come mid- August, because of Lockdown, I still don’t know the area.

Visiting friends and family. It’s been awful not seeing (or hugging!) anyone for so long.

Wild swimming. There’s a beautiful river near me, so on the first hot day, you know where to find me.

Xylophone band practise has been cancelled due to COVID, but hopefully it will be back on.

Yoga classes. I’ve really missed going to the studio during all the Lockdowns

Zzz. Catch up on all the school year missed sleep during the summer holidays.

What are your summer goals?
