Allbirds have been on my radar for a long time, and I’ve been longing to try out their sustainable footwear. They are a certified B Corp company, and 90% of their packaging is recyclable. The materials used in their shoes range from wool to recycled cardboard to recycled plastic bottles to castor bean oil. Their shoes also use 60% less energy than the materials used in synthetic shoes.

The footwear industry in general emits 700 million tonnes of carbon dioxide every year, and Allbirds aims to be carbon neutral by the end of 2019.

The shoes retail at £95, which is fairly average for good trainers, let alone sustainable ones. I opted for the Wool Runners in Tuke Jam. I was gifted this shoes, but it makes no difference to my opinion on them: they are a wonderful pair of shoes. They were extraordinarily comfortable with no breaking in time at all.

I very much approved of the recyclable packaging and the customer service was great as well. But most importantly, the shoes are an amazing quality and have put up with a lot of use already but are still in great condition. I also really love the colour of them. The subtle berry nature of the tuke jam colour makes them seem almost like a neutral, without being boring.

A few years down the line, if I need another pair of trainers, I’d definitely turn to Allbirds. Hooray for finding an amazing sustainable shoe!
