York || Afternoon Tea at Hotel Du Vin

*** This was a complimentary meal in exchange for review, but all opinions are forever my own.***

I was absolutely delighted to be invited to the Hotel Du Vin Bistro in York to try their champagne afternoon tea. I actually live fairly close to Hotel du Vin and frequently walk by it. I’ve always meant to pop inside, but for some reason, I hadn’t done. And I was really missing out.

The Bistro itself is absolutely lovely. I adore that you have the option of sitting outside and watching the world go by on their lovely patio, or having a really gorgeous light-filled interior. I’m always slightly cold, so we opted to sit inside, but there was such a lovely garden feel to the space that it felt like we were outside.

The champagne afternoon tea includes bottomless champagne and the staff was quick to appear and offer refills. It’s a pet peeve of mine to be at a bottomless brunch or tea and not actually get your money’s worth. At Hotel du Vin, you definitely do.

Sam absolutely loved the salmon and cream cheese on rye bread, but other favourites of his were the egg and cress mayonnaise brioche sub, and the ham and Gruyère croissant. I loved the heritage tomato and tapenade
galette, and the goat’s cheese and spinach quiche.

Then we moved on to scones. I personally prefer my scones without sultanas or raisins, but that’s just a personal preference and they were delicious regardless. However, it is jam and then cream, always.

The sweet course consisted of Tutti Frutti macarons, tiny black forest gateaus, pistachio pin wheels, and rhubarb and custard tarts. I absolutely adore the pistachio pin wheels – they were so pistachio-y! Sam thoroughly enjoyed the tiny black forest gateau though he admitted that he wouldn’t have been able to eat a full-sized one as it was so deliciously rich.

Overall, I think the savoury course was my favourite. I thought the sandwiches were really interesting, different and flavourful, but as I’d said on instagram stories, tiny food always tastes better, right?

The staff was so friendly, and I can definitely recommend Hotel du Vin’s champagne afternoon tea for a special occasion. Classic afternoon tea starts at £22.50, whilst bottomless champagne afternoon tea is £30/

Have you had afternoon tea at a Hotel du Vin before? Or eaten anything else there?
