Outfitting || Gingham Dress

I can’t help it- I am fully on board and drawn to the Cottage Core style. Though my own style has a bit too many Dark Academia vibes to be fully Cottage Core. But the floral prints, the linen, the cotton, the breezy dresses, the flowers and long walks by the river – that’s me to a tee.

It’s an aspirational trend of simple living with a witch’s cabin in the wood surrounded by flowers. There’s always freshly baked bread, fresh fruit, clean air and sunshine. A woodland paradise. It’s a romanticization. Since moving to the countryside, I can attest that life in nature is not all that idyllic at all and that I do miss many, many things about city life. But when all else fails in life, cottage core tells me that I can make jam. It’s an escapist fantasy and one that after a torrid year and a bit, doesn’t hurt to melt into.

Cottage core has a weird dichotomy of matriarchy and nostalgia. It’s one of the reasons that I think #vintagefashionnotvintagevalues is important. It’s too easy to glamourize the past.

This gingham dress can be found here. Be aware: it is quite see-through. If that bothers you, then this dress is probably not for you. But it’s oh-so-light-and-floaty. Perfect for a hot day. I found that it ran quite large and I had to size down from my usual UK8 to a UK 6.
